Is It Possible to Remove Red Wine From Carpets?
Carpet Cleaner Tips on How to Remove Red Wine Stains
Our Carlsbad Bernal's Carpet Care carpet cleaner has been asked on several occasions what the best way is to remove red wine stains. So we decided to write this blog for people that live outside of the Carlsbad, CA area to help them out. First, you will need to use a clean white cloth in order to blot up as much of the red wine as you can immediately. Alternate parts of the cloth to blot using a fresh spot.
- Add some water to the stained area and carry on blotting. The water will dilute the red wine, which in turn makes it easier to blot up. Never pour too much water at one go, and remember to switch out the blotting cloth for a dry one. Continue blotting until you cannot remove anymore using this method.
- Make a baking soda paste mix, and apply this directly to the carpet stain and leave it to completely dry before vacuuming it up.
- Using a carpet stain remover, should any of the stain remain, try using a carpet stain remover, follow the manufacturers instructions to the letter.
Tips for Removing the Stain
Test any carpet stain removal on a hidden area of your carpet to make sure no bleaching or color difference occurs. When your carpet is white, mix one part clear dishwashing liquid with two parts hydrogen peroxide instead of a commercial carpet stain remover. Sponge on, then blot off and rinse. Never use this method on colored carpets as it could damage your carpet’s color.
Should your party still be going strong, and you do not want to make a big deal about the red wine stain, blot with paper towels, then sprinkle salt on the stain and simply return to your guests. The salt absorbs most of the wine which was not blotted up, and it can be easily vacuumed away once your guests have left.
